Welcome

This page provides registration & transfer information.

Announcement for All Shagya-Arabian Owners

Several years ago ISG requested that NASS offer to register pure and part bred Shagya-Arabians, which had been originally registered in ASAV, in order to facilitate horses of these bloodlines to be included in an ISG-member registry.  NASS agreed to do so, extending an offer to ASAV registrants to move their horses over into the NASS Registry at greatly reduced fees.  NASS has continued this offer in the ensuing years and is now pleased to extend this offer, as well, to owners of horses in the PShR.  Therefore, any owner of a horse or horses registered in either ASAV or PShR is cordially invited to become a member of NASS and to register their horse for the discounted fee as shown in the NASS Fee Schedule.

How to Register a Horse

Registration Categories

SHARONA records horses in the following categories as defined by the NASS Breeding Guidelines:

  1. Purebred Shagya-Arabian: Book I
  2. Shagya-Arabian: Book II
  3. Appendix Shagya-Arabian (Formerly Part Shagya-Arabian)
  4. Part Shagya

Please see NASS Fee Schedule for all associated fees.

Registration Applications

Registration applications can be downloaded from the website (see below) or requested from the NASS Registrar.

Horses Born in North America

To register a Shagya-Arabian bred horse born in North America with SHARONA, you must complete a Registration Application for Horses Born in North America. Applications for foals should be submitted before December 31 of their birth year in order to avoid a late fee. Older horses are eligible for registration. If the horse to be registered has been previously recorded with any other registry, a copy of the complete valid registration must accompany the NASS application.

Imported Horses

To register an imported Shagya-Arabian bred horse with SHARONA, you must complete a Registration Application for Imported Horses. The application clearly states at the top what documentation is required, including: copy of certificate of registration and official pedigree, record of transfer to current owner, date of importation, translation into English of any documentation in a foreign language and a standard foal application for a foal imported in utero.

Parentage Verification

The parentage of horses registered with SHARONA must be verified through DNA typing before the registration papers are issued.  NASS accepts DNA Profiles from other organizations for parentage verification upon those organizations' labs releasing it to NASS' filing laboratory at the University of Kentucky.

The NASS DNA SAMPLE FORM can be downloaded from the website or requested by email from the NASS Registrar.

Hereditary Disorders

Beginning with the foaling year 2021, all Purebred Shagya-Arabians, Shagya Arabians and Appendix Shagya-Arabians are required to submit testing results for the genetic disorders SCID and CA to the registry before registration papers are issued, unless both parents are already on record with the registry as being clear.

Registration Certificates

Transfer of Ownership & Lost or Damaged Certificates

TRANSFERS: When selling or transferring ownership of a horse that's registered with SHARONA:

  1. The owner of record (seller) must sign the transfer record on the registration certificate, filling in the date of sale and name and address of the new owner (buyer).
  2. The new owner should send the Registrar:

  • the registration certificate,
  • a copy of the Bill of Sale.

   3.  Send transfer fee to the Treasurer

Please do not send the original bill of sale.  Send NASS a copy and retain the original for your records. You may cross out anything on the submitted copy that you'd prefer to keep private (i.e. price, terms, etc.).

Once the transfer is recorded, the registration certificate will be returned to the new owner.

LOST OR DAMAGED CERTIFICATES:  Replacement certificates may be requested by filing a NASS Certificate Replacement Form and paying the certificate replacement fee.

Please see the NASS Certificate Replacement Form posted below.
